The academic foundation equips a student with the necessary technical and methodological rigour to thrive in a professional environment but these skills do not warrant a successful and healthy development beyond the protected walls of the Institute. It gives me great pleasure to see that Indian Institute of Information Technology (Allahabad), Prayagraj has put forth an initiative of starting a new semester course, ‘Orientation camp’ for newly admitted students. The spirit behind this course is overall development of students. The course aligns with the National Education Policy and will equip the students with self-management and emotional skills and these competencies will gear the students for future challenges. Personal growth and professional growth is a pre-requisite for budding technocrats. Technical institutions at times focus more on academic rigour than life skills. For the holistic development of the individual it is imperative to balance both professional and life skills. This initiative will not only benefit the stakeholders but also the nation at large.
